20:41 – The last Rubenerd Show for 2005, isn't it… what's the word I'm thinking for… a word like sentimental but less soppy. In any event, talking about my new year's goals and why I have no resolutions (thank you Phil Gerbyshak), a review of the biggest year of my short life to date (what with starting uni, moving out of home and all) and what I hope to achieve in 2006. A time capsule episode so to speak, be interesting to listen to the same time next year. Have a fantastic new year!

Something To Think About Segment: The 2006 Holden Barina… a knockoff or a coincidence?

I smell a ripoff

Thoughts

Just saw the new 2006 Holden Barina.

Photo of the 2006 Holden Barina.

… and the 2004 Hyundai Getz…

Photo of the 2004 Hyundai Getz, which looks almost exactly the same

Hmm…

9 to 5

Media

Just finished watching 9 to 5 the movie, brilliant movie!

From the IMDB: "Three female employees of a "sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot" find a way to turn the tables on him."

Movie DVD cover.

Aside from being side splitting (you could fill an entire comedy one-liners book with it!) it really is a rare glimpse into how sexist the workplace was even 20 years ago. I think these days guys tend to act fairly cynically towards feminists and their 'causes' but seeing how they were treated in this movie really makes you think. If they hadn't done what they did do its quite feasible that they would be treated like crap even today… some would argue they still are.

This is why ads like the LYNXjet commercials showing on television are really pissing me off. Are we going backwards in time here? Is it possible another 20 years will pass and we'll be back to the satirical world shown in the movie? I hope for the sake of our condition we're not.

Technorati

Internet

I've now got a profile and account on Technorati!

Technorati is a site about blogs/weblogs/podcasts and the people behind them. What I think is pretty wicked is that you can type in a search term or phrase (such as… 'rubenerd') and it will search all the weblogs in its directory every few minutes for the term, and post the results in an easy-to-digest summary page, and in an RSS feed you can subscribe to. Brilliant.

Of course, if you've been into blogging for ages, you'd know about this already… but still.
