Finally Made User Page on Wikipedia

Internet

I've been a contributer to the English Wikipedia project for a few years now, but only just realised I hadn't created a user page for myself.

If you're interested:

Need to add a picture or spruce it up a bit. Ah, it's fine.

Useful Guide to MIME Types

Internet

This webpage is great if you want to learn about MIME types; so confident was the creator of this page he/she even provided the link HTML to insert onto a fan's page, so here it is:

Check out WWW FAQs: What are MIME types? on Boutell.Com’s web site.

And if you want to provide a link, the HTML provided is:

Check out <a href=”http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/definitions/mimetype.html”> WWW FAQs: What are MIME types?</a> on <a href=”http://www.boutell.com/”> Boutell.Com’s</a> web site.

And that's all you need to know… and that's what that's all about.

Windows Gaming on MacBook Pro

Software

Now that I have Windows XP dual booting on my MacBook Pro (strictly for games only, Mac OS X still occupies a 92% parition on the hard disk ;)) I've been testing some of my favourite older games but they're stuck in a small portion of the screen… the MacBook Pro has a 1440×900 resolution.

Some notes on different games I've tried:

Bridge Commander
I edited the options.cfg file as per the instructions on this site to use height: 900 and width: 1440, but it crashes when I try playing the actual game (the main menu loads fine). For the time being, looks like I'm stuck with 1024×768.

Train Simulator
Works perfetly, but still stuck in 1024×768 as well, haven't found any way to alter this yet.

Midtown Madness 2: San Francisco & London
Works perfectly, graphics are awesome and utilises the full screen resolution :D. To make it work (as with any Windows XP systsem) you need to download this official patch from Microsoft, then you're good to go! If you don't have a copy of Midtown Madness 2, you can even download an official demo!

Counter-Strike 1.6
Of course, the ultimate Windows game of all time! Works flawlessly at the full resolution of the MacBook Pro, classic LAN gaming here I come :D.

Solitaire
And of course, a game review wouldn't be complete without Solitaire! How does it perform? Well the MacBook Pro's graphics card is more than able to move card images across a screen with ease ;).

More will be added as I find them.

Back Home Again

Travel

As of one hour ago, the troops and I finally made it back to the outskirts of Adelaide, felt pretty good. We've done a ton of stuff:

Links are to artciles in Wikipedia if you need clarification :)

Melbourne (2 days)

  • Driven from Adelaide to Melbourne
  • Driven along the Great Ocean Road
  • Seen the 12 Apostles and London Bridge rock formations
  • Shopped in the CBD
  • Ate at the Hard Rock Cafe
  • Went to the top of the Rialto Towers (aka: Melbourne Observation Deck)
  • Walked along Southbank and saw the Eureka Tower (world’s tallest residential building)
  • Visited Patterson Lakes where I grew up over 12 years ago, very emotional!
  • Recorded Rubenerd Show from Patterson Lakes!

Canberra (1 day)

  • Best backpackers lodge I’ve ever stayed in :)
  • Visited Parliament House (inside and outside)
  • Visited town minatures park (incredible detail)
  • Went to the top of the Testra Tower
  • Recorded Rubenerd Show from top of Testra Tower

Sydney (3 days)

  • Visited my grandma while the others did tourist-y stuff
  • Recorded Rubenerd Show with grandma

The Rubenerd Shows I recorded were done 'on location' and thusly need some pretty hardcore processing before they're okay to distribute, so I'll be doing that over the next day or so.

Look out for photos soon too!

Internet Again… Briefly

Media

Rubenerd Blog on location! Har Har :)

Coming to you from some random McDonalds in the middle of nowhere between Canberra and Sydney… my first time I've had internet access since my last post!

Trip so far has been great, crossed a timezone, been to Melbourne and Canberra and taken a ton of photos, but I don't have time to upload any right now, and this wireless network isn't the fastest thing in the world!

Rubenerd Shows will be coming to you again when I arrive in Adelaide, got a ton of audio footage I'm going to play, is going to be awesome so stay tuned :).

Cheers

Rubenerd Show on Easter Holiday

Media

Tonight at 12:00 Kevin, Singapore Eugene, Chris, the three guys from Malaysia and I are off on a road trip to Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney for the easter holidays!

This means the next Rubenerd Show will be coming to you from one of these cities above, not Adelaide. I'm not sure how easy I'll be able to access internet in the next week, so this also means the next episode will also be delayed a bit, so hang in there.

I'll be talking to you guys soon.

Apple Boot Camp: Windows XP On Mac

Software

So Apple has released an official working beta of a software program that will let users install Microsoft Windows XP on a Mac, and it's called Boot Camp.

http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

I think Windows is a piece of trash but I would like to install it on my MacBook Pro so I can play games :). I won't connect the Windows boot partition to the internet though… and to think Windows users type credit card numbers in to their machines, it's seriously frightening.

Anyway, as usual I expected Apple to take a few shots at Microsoft Windows, and they didn't fail me :D …

EFI and BIOS

Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries.

Word to the Wise

Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it’ll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes.

Telling it like it is.

Rubenerd Show Site Relaunched… Again!

Media

Rubenerd Show Asia Pacific

The Rubenerd Show website has been redesigned again! I'm not sure which version I'm up to, version 7 I think? Not sure. I've honestly lost count!

Anyway the new site reflects the different recording locations, now Adelaide, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur so I thought saying Rubenerd Show Australia was a bit misleading.

Episode Update: There are episodes coming to you soon; I have been having an insane amount of difficulty uploading shows but recently I might have found an alternative method of uploading, so stay tuned! Get it, stay tuned? We're talking about a radio show? Tuned!? Ah shaddup.

Hope you like the new site :) any feedback is appreciated!

Cheers

Best Overnightscape Ever!

Media

Frank Edward Nora.

I've been lisening to The Overnightscape when my stream of internet connections allow since November 2004, and Frank has left me convinced that his radio programme is world class, not only one of the best shows on the internet but better even that all of the terrestrial programming available today (its for this reason that I also love the term New Time Radio) in Singapore, Malaysia or Australia.

Anyways the lastest episodes of his show have been, put simply, brilliant. If you haven't heard episode 429 yet, then in the words of the New South Wales traffic authority: "you're a bloody idiot!"

I won't go into detail about what makes this show so great, I don't want to spoil the surprise, suffice it to say it's in New York, its a radio excursion and it's fascinating. Audio podcasting at its best.

Oh and he talks about Gill Sans :D
