If you're trying to burn a data DVD or CD in Mac OS X Tiger (or later, see the comments for this post!) and you get the following error when you insert a blank disc:

0x8002002

… the Finder might be having a caching issue and forgetting a drive is attached, according to FrozenNorth. Fortunately there is an easy enough solution: eject the offending disc, Force Quit the Finder then try again.

For those who don't know how:

• Click the Apple Menu in to top left hand corner
• Click Force Quit…
• Choose Finder" from the list, then click Restart
• Eject the blank disc, then reinsert and try burning again.

Alternatively you can do it from the Terminal:

$ killall Finder

Surprisngly enough, this is the #1 result for doing searches on this topic in Google, for some reason. That surprises me no end, though perhaps its a sign this issue isn't very widespread. Unfortunately, that also means it may be sticking around for a while. Here's hoping it's fixed in the next release of OS X.

Duck is the common name for a number of species in the Anatidae family of birds. The ducks are divided between several subfamilies listed in full in the Anatidae article. Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, mostly smaller than their relatives the swans and geese, and may be found in both fresh water and sea water.

Most ducks have a wide flat beak adapted for dredging. They exploit a variety of food sources such as grasses, grains and aquatic plants, fish, and insects. Some (the diving ducks) forage deep underwater; the others (the dabbling ducks) feed from the surface of water or on land. To be able to submerge easier, the diving ducks are heavier for size than dabbling ducks, and therefore have more difficulty taking off to fly. A few specialized species (the goosander and the mergansers) are adapted to catch large fish.

The males (drakes) of northern species often have showy plumage, but this is moulted in summer to give a more female-like appearance, the “eclipse” plumage. Many species of ducks are temporarily flightless while moulting; they seek out protected habitat with good food supplies during this period. This moult typically precedes migration.
Some duck species, mainly those breeding in the temperate and arctic Northern Hemisphere, are migratory, but others are not. Some, particularly in Australia where rainfall is patchy and erratic, are nomadic, seeking out the temporary lakes and pools that form after localised heavy rain.

Ducks are sometimes confused with several types of unrelated water birds with similar forms, such as loons or divers, grebes, gallinules, and coots.

I had no idea as to the existance of this command, but as I was searching through my /usr/bin/ directory trying to see what version of Perl I had, I saw the nice command.

Typing man nice gave:

nice [-n increment] utility [argument …]

DESCRIPTION
nice runs utility at an altered scheduling priority. If an increment is
given, it is used; otherwise an increment of 10 is assumed. The super-
user can run utilities with priorities higher than normal by using a neg-
ative increment. The priority can be adjusted over a range of -20 (the
highest) to 20 (the lowest).

Available options:

-n increment
A positive or negative decimal integer used to modify the system
scheduling priority of utility.

DIAGNOSTICS
The nice utility shall exit with one of the following values:

1-125 An error occurred in the nice utility.

126 The utility was found but could not be invoked.

127 The utility could not be found.

Otherwise, the exit status of nice shall be that of utility.

COMPATIBILITY
The historic -increment option has been deprecated but is still supported
in this implementation.

BUGS
nice is built into csh(1) with a slightly different syntax than described
here. The form `nice +10′ nices to positive nice, and `nice -10′ can be

As a long time previous DOS/Windows user that moved to Mac and BSD back in 2002, I guess its like assigning priority in the Task Manager in NT/2000/XP/2003?
