Worst.Insomnia.Ever.

Thoughts

I went to bed at just past 11:30pm. I probably slept for about 1 hour, and I've been tossing and turning in bed ever since 12:30. It's now 4:30 and I just jumped out of bed, thinking "That's it! Enough of this crap!"

Wonder if that whole "warm milk" thing does any good. I'm so tired, but I can't sleep! :(

John Howard and Peter Costello Ad

Thoughts

If you're from Australia or know anything about Australian politics; especially involving the last 18 months or so; you can understand why I found this ad very clever marketing and hilarious!

Ha! :D

Frank Edward Nora’s Blog

Internet

It seems our favourite New Time Radio show presenter Frank Edward Nora now has one of these new-fangled blog things, almost the same time as I started the University Chronicles of Ruben. That's spooky!

He has some of his YouTube submissions, as well as some of his Overnightscape show episodes.

I rememeber for a while this very blog also had links to the latest Rubenerd Shows here too, but now the Blog and Show are two seperate projects with seperate content, rather than an aggregation blog which I think is what Frank is doing.

He's using WordPress (yeah!) with the black WordPress DarkNight theme.

Fathers Day PayPal Spam

Internet

You might remember I got automatically subscribed without authorisation to PayPal's junk mail… sorry, newsletter on Tuesday, August 1st, 2006:

Got this email this morning from PayPal Australia:

Dear Ruben Schade,

Welcome to the first issue of the PayPal Australia newsletter, designed to help you get the most of your PayPal account and take advantage of the special offers from our leading merchants.

Enjoy!

The PayPal Australia Team.

Crap, more email junk that I didn’t register for.

Well now Father’s day hasn’t even been spared:

Dear Ruben Schade,

Welcome to the Father’s day issue of the PayPal Australia newsletter. In this issue we discuss recent research findings, enhancements to the Sell Your Item process on eBay and download our free E-Business marketing guide.

Enjoy!

The PayPal Australia Team.

Couldn't we have at least one public holiday or celebrated day that doesn't generate this media spam crap?

And why do people still send email newsletters anyway? Just give me an RSS feed damn it!

The Japanese GAM

Media

When I typed GAM into Wikipedia to research my post The Aceh GAM, it took me to this Japanese Idol Duo instead.

GAM (ギャム?) (pronounced GYAMU) is a new project under the Hello! Project umbrella consisting of Aya Matsuura and Miki Fujimoto. This pairing was announced mid June 2006. According to Hello! Project producer Tsunku, the term GAM stands for Great Aya and Miki.

Do you think they're single and speak English ;)? I mean… ahem, good thing I was able to find the right article eventually.

The Aceh GAM

Travel

I watched a fascinating and moving documentry on SBS about Aceh, the disputed state in nothern Sumatra, Indonesia. They were talking about GAM, or in English the Free Aceh Movement.

The Free Aceh Movement (Indonesian: Gerakan Aceh Merdeka or simply GAM), also known as the Aceh Sumatra National Liberation Front (ASNLF), is a separatist group seeking independence for the Aceh region of Sumatra from Indonesia. The armed wing of the organisation has reportedly been dissolved following 2005 peace agreement with the Indonesian Government. The Indonesian government called the group the Aceh Security Disturbance Movement.

Those poor people, the civil wars, the struggle, then the tsunami to top it off.
