Online Auctions Raise Value of Charity Gifts

Internet

CNET is reporting that online auctions raise value of celebrities' charity gifts. This can only be a good thing. Simple economics shows that with more potential buyers, the price of a good or service will rise as a result; the extra raised revenue would help the charity even more.

Charities have long sold items owned by celebrities, but eBay and the Internet have pumped new life into this fund-raising technique, increasing returns exponentially.

“The Internet increases your reach, drawing people from around the country and even internationally,” said Sheila Consaul, a United Way spokeswoman.

Of course the only time when this wouldn't be a good thing is if it was me or Dave trying to bid haha ;).

PocketMac for BlackBerry

Software

If you have a Mac and a BlackBerry (like me), PocketMac is indispensable.

More than 4 years after we began making unique sync solutions for the Mac, people still ask us, “Are you guys nuts?”
Only now they ask, “What Mac user would want a BlackBerry® device?”

And just as before, our answer is: All of them!

The BlackBerry device is one of the best devices and the Mac is the best computing platform.

Why not have the best of both worlds? That’s why we created PocketMac® For BlackBerry, the original Mac-To-BlackBerry Sync Solution

It still irritates me though that Research In Motion still refuses to acknowledge and natively support anyone who doesn't use Windows.

Singapore Lifestyle Wiki

Travel

Singapore's skyline

If you're going to Singapore any time soon, check out the Singapore Lifestyle Wiki. I only found this site this morning, but I'm really impressed: it's got public transport information, where the best bars are, things to do with kids, hotels, restaurants, and it's all peer reviewed and created and free, just like the Wikipedia project.

I think I'll register and contribute some stuff. Wonder if they have anything on Sim Lim Square? ;).

I love my Blackberry, its the best phone I have ever owned. Still I've always been a bit disenchanted with the built in BrickBreaker game for it: I've always been a strategy and card game kinda guy.

My thoughts have been answered :D

Support Bloggers' Rights!

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is a non-profit advocacy and legal organization based in the United States with the stated purpose of being dedicated to preserving free speech rights such as those protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution in the context of today's digital age.

Despite the fact I live in Australia, Malaysia and Singapore where technically the EFF has no "jurisdiction" so to speak, I feel this group still plays a critical role in the protection of free speech online, which is why I have placed an EFF badge on the sidebar.

If you want to support this noble group and its cause, the EFF has a spiffy gallery of badges you can put on your blog.

9/11 Programme on Channel 9

Media

Here in Australia I'm in the process of watching 9/11 on Channel 9, perhaps my other Aussie buddies are watching it now too. Possibly one of the most moving shows I have ever seen, I am completely speechless… I can't think what else to say.

9:30 pm Channel Nine Adelaide
9/11 (130 mins, Rated: M)
Genre: Documentary

For millions of people alive today the most significant political event of their lifetimes will be the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Combining dramatic reconstruction with the testimonies of survivors, victims’ families, emergency workers and city officials, this major television film captures the minute-by-minute events of a single day in history.

EDIT: Just finished watching it. My entire attitude toward the tradegy has competely changed, I had no idea the towers collapsed so slowly. I'm not religious so I can't say my prayers are with those affected but I can say my thoughts are.

Australian NRL Game Attendance Down

Thoughts

NRL

I just heard from Channel 10 on the news that game attendance at Australian National Rugby League (NRL) games are averging 11,000 less people than last year.

Perhaps the sight of grown men in tiny shorts groping each other… sorry tackling each other just doesn't have the same appeal that it used to. Or maybe people are actually doing constructive things with their time now. Hey, maybe they're listening to the Rubenerd Show instead. Yeah, that's it.
