The Twitter bird

Today's Twitter tweet of the day goes to Long Zheng in Melbourne:

longzheng: i’m sick of tech “reporters” labeling Vista a “train wreck”. they’re the ones who derailed a perfectly good OS http://bit.ly/41ngGM

He's absolutely right, Windows Vista didn't have any flaws whatsoever, it was the all the fault of the evil media! I guess it's true what they say, denial isn't the only river in Egypt ;).

To be fair, he sometimes posts some really good stuff. I was intrigued by this idea he posted on the 11th, partly because the problem he describes is one I've been talking about for a long time myself. I'd be interested to see what happens with it, it sounds like a great idea.

StarCraft, South Korea and Wikipedia

Internet

Sports section in the South Korea Wikipedia article

So I was talking to somebody online about Taekwondo and wasn't sure about the spelling, so I looked up the Sports section on the South Korea Wikipedia article. In hindsight I may as well have just looked up the Taekwondo page itself. You do silly things when you're half asleep.

According to Wikipedia, as it turns out StarCraft is South Korea's national sport. If it's on Wikipedia, it has to be true! A WikiAnswers page corroborates this.

I learn something new every day; and forget two other things. Komapsumnida.

Terrible food puns and nature photos

Media

An All-Bran tree!

Funnily enough I wasn't terribly hungry when I took these two photos, but you could be forgiven for thinking food was foremost on my mind. For some reason I could see food and food related whatnot everywhere in The Nature.

A box of All-Bran

For example, in the photo above I have depicted through my camera conveyance a picture of an All-Bran tree. I presume the Kellogg's cereal company has fields of these trees that they harvest the All-Bran from and possibly toast or something before finally packaging for the morning crowd who subsequently have no trouble maintaining regularity. Super duper!

The other picture below is somewhat less interesting, but I loved the [purely accidental] interesting depth of field. I thought it kinda looked like wheat, which makes my use of the word field in the previous sentence a delicious pun, and the word delicious that was just mentioned was also a delicious pun because we're talking about food! I don't get paid enough for this gig.

In case you're wondering, these are part of the same mid semester break nature walk photos I took and talked about a couple of weeks ago and started a Flickr gallery for. Over the next few days I'll be uploading more stuff.

A crappy cigarette smoking excuse

Thoughts

Sitting at the Boatdeck Cafe in Mawson Lakes this morning for breakfast (I know it will shock you to hear I was there) I overhead the following conversation between two women justifying why they started smoking cigarettes:

Person 1: It’s, like, not fair to hate something you, like, haven’t tried.
Person 2: I know right? I mean, its like, duh!

Fair enough. I've never attempted to inject myself with anthrax, so it wouldn't be fair for me to say I hate it. Could I get around this restriction by being more flexible with my language by saying I loathe it instead? Or detest it?

In related news, it's a good thing they ban smoking in cafés here. Not that I personally have ever smoked in a cafe and therefore it wouldn't be fair for me to say I hate it apparently!

MPAA attempts to rebrand themselves

Media

CNET News.com is reporting in an article with another one of their unambiguous URLs that six studios are dissatisfied with the way the Motion Picture Association of America has been going after copyright infringement, so their plan is to call their efforts content protection instead of anti-piracy.

I've got an even better term to describe their intentionally misleading activities that will save them horizontal screen real estate on their website: irrelevant.
