#Anime Crowdsourced Moe Day 2011 post!

Anime

Photo of Mugi-chan from K-On! walking on a piano.

On Twitter this afternoon I said I couldn't justify posting a moe picture here for Moe Day 2011 given I'd only just posted this picture of Mugi-Chan recently. @Sebasu_tan and @hanezawakirika would have none of that however, and told me to post another one anyway. Then I was sent the adorable picture you see above, and was encouraged to blog about it!

This could very well be the first entirely crowdsourced blog post in Rubenerd.com's 4,054 post history. I need more of these ^_^.

#Anime Anime@UTS deliberations

Anime

In lieu of a wordier post to fulfil my PostADay2011 Challenge obligations, enclosed is a simple and rather terrible camera phone photo of our deliberations today for a new President of the Anime@UTS club, amongst other positions.

Of all the uni clubs I've been a part of, this overwhelmingly has the nicest people and the most fun events. Sometimes we even watch anime, when we're not tweeting!

#Anime Can I have one too please?

How does David Garrett do it?

Media

David Garrett

How did David Garrett become one of the world's fastest (and coolest) violinists in the world? The answer may shock and surprise you!

He should do a rendition of Surfin’ Bird

To the story that prompted the writing of post, on the somewhat camelCased Channel NewsAsia:

How do you become one of the fastest violinists in the world?

Funny, I remember asking the same question.

"Practice," said German virtuoso violinist David Garrett, who once held the Guinness World Record for Fastest Violin Player and has made fusing hit rock songs with classical music his calling card in the music industry. ~ CNA

Stop the presses!

I've been a huge fan since hearing his rendition of Smooth Criminal. I feared for his safety however, I've seen people rubbing two sticks of wood together to start a fire do it slower. Listen to a few tracks and see for yourself. Well, hear for yourself, unless you're one of those amazing people who can taste colours, and see sound. Rumour has it he doesn't need smoke machines at his performances, and that he typically goes through two hundred and nine bows an hour.

Some of the claims in that paragraph were erroneous

Granted this was written before his record was broken, but this post from Our Three Strand Life summarises his work and even my own emotions pretty darn well well:

Garrett, a 30-year-old German-American classical violinist, began playing at the age of 4, was recording by the age of 13, was the youngest soloist ever at 14 and by 17 was playing world-wide. Not to mention, Garrett is listed in the Guinness Book of World Record as the world’s fastest violinist, playing 13 notes a second. Interested yet?

What sets Garrett apart for me (other than his insane talent of course) is his ability to take both timeless classics and current rock hits and make them brand new. From Beethoven to Metallica, David Garrett plays it all.

And I am loving it.

I hear you!

He's also rather attractive. I'm just saying.

Steve Jobs vigil at the flagship Sydney Apple Store

Thoughts

Apple Store vigil for Steve Jobs in Sydney

Originally I wasn't going to go, but around 11pm something snapped inside me and I took the last train into town.

It was misty outside with a gentle amount of rainfall, though not enough to extinguish the candles or run the ink on the notes people left.

Since the photo Renai posted on Delimiter this afternoon, people have since left apples, notes, candles and even a forth generation iPod.

In he insight, I'm glad I went late in the evening than during the day. There were still a few people crowded around, but I was able to stand there like a fanboi loser for a few minutes and pay respects without people bumping into me. The light of the candles was also rather warm and pretty in the darkness.

A comment my sister just made: how many other CEOs can you name would have such a fan created vigil made in their honour?
