Every so often you read a blog post by someone that talks about an issue so close to you and using words you would have used that it’s not only spooky, but makes you think there’s a secret evil conspiracy going on. I accuse Josh Nunn of orchestrating such a conspiracy this evening with his latest blog post.

Ladies, gentleman and everyone else, as you sit here today reading this post (or walking around reading it on your smartphone, hey WATCH OUT for that pole!) I’d like to regale you with a tale, and this time it has nothing to do with Alan A’Dale. Alan A’Dale. This Tale, has nothing to do, with Alan A’Dale. The Tale. It’s a tale of 90s nostalgia, love and gadgets.
Having just spent the last few days talking about my own social anxiety, awkwardness and questions about my point in life, the universe, everything and 42, I thought I’d stop being so inwardly focused and address someone else’s post discussing similar issues. We’re a confederacy of introverts here aren’t we? :).
I got a blog comment from Monnie on my recent South Aussie elections post which led me to her cupcakes blog, which led me to her other blog where she talks about an idea she got from @edible_hat about goals for 2010. Whew, that was a long and needlessly convoluted sentence.
Having only just sat at Starbucks to do some programming and cleaning out my desktop (I let far too many files accumulate) I accessed the free WiFi and launched Firefox only to see the above dialog presenting me with a NoScript update. Problem is, I’m connected to the WiFi hotspot but not to the open internet! Spooked out stuff.
As I sit here on my ThinkPad X40 running Fedora 12 drinking a piping hot Americano in Millenia Walk I’m attempting to make sense of the announcements made thousands of kilometres away on the other side of the planet and their potential ramifications. How’s that for a fluffy, pointless introduction?
There has been more talk about the rumoured Apple iTablet / iSlate / iPad / iThingy than the second coming of a non existant deity or a certain iTelephone device. There’s probably little more I could add that hasn’t already been said, but I’m going to have fun doing it anyway. As a matter of disclosure, some of my computers are Macs and I have an iPhone.
Why did I put a picture of an old MacBook Pro and not the current one? Because it’s the venerable Apple companion I have, albeit with Snow Leopard now! Isn’t that sweet? No, it’s because there aren’t any photos of a darn Apple tablet yet! The Bird is The Word! But I digress (no, really?).
Hall and Oates famously sang there’s life after high school, and I think it’s safe to say there are several signs that let you know such sentiment is true. One is you graduate, two is some of your former teachers open a chain of budget laundromats that cater to people allergic to surfactants, and third is people you grew up with get married. Well, two out of three ain’t bad!
At the risk of sounding melodramatic and drawing too much attention to myself, I often find talking about this kind of stuff helps. And heck, if I can’t blog about on my blog, where else do I blog about it?
