Ruining people’s Google Reader feeds

I may be blogging too much.

just spent an hour catching up on 3 days of RSS feeds. About 1/3 of it was @rubenerd.

As I told the proprietor of this far more interesting blog than mine after repeatedly apologising, I make up for my lack of intelligent thoughts with… quantity! Like this post you’re reading now for example, there’s nothing of substance here whatsoever. An intelligent blogger wouldn’t ever publish a post like this. The Bird is The Word.

Trevor Grace’s South Aussie leaflet thing

AbortSA leaflet

Not many tech posts today, getting up on my soap box. I arrived back in Adelaide just as the South Australian elections are starting to heat up. This post shows a letter response I sent to sent to sent to sent to sent to (sorry, got stuck in an infinite loop) Trevor Grace who sent me a leaflet in the mail for his AbortSA party.

Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Adelaide, pause

View out the hotel window, KL

Just came back this evening from our (brief) trip to KL, as evidenced from the view from our hotel window above! I lived here in 2007-08 so it was good to go to all my old haunts. Will be posting proper photos and whatnot later this week.

We’ve got Tuesday in Singapore (going to make the most of it), then 09:00 on Wednesday morning I’m back to Adelaide to face those "people" at that university. Can’t wait.

With that in mind they’re will probably be a further interruption to your regularly scheduled blog posts here. If you feel the urge to read more Ruben sanctioned nonsense, feel free to browse the archive or barring that visit any of the fine folks on the site sidebar. They’re far more interesting, succinct, eloquent and funny than me anyway.

Danke schön, see you on the other side ^_^.

Leaving studies in Adelaide for Canberra

North Terrace in Adelaide

Jonathan Schwartz’s departure from Sun has inspired me to write my own departure note as it were. Hey I like that segue, I’m going to run with it. After a few [non-consecutive!] semesters in Adelaide I’ve decided to transfer to Canberra. For those who really care about the angst of a 20-something student (no, really), feel free to read.

South Aussie election law hurts my brain

Michael Atkinson

If we needed any [further] proof that Australian federal and state governments are losing the plot, this latest move by the South Australian government to restrict free speech online with regards to the next elections would be it, and in no way is it more succinctly represented than by Michael Atkinson. For someone with such a cool name, I would have expected more, I blame myself.

Michael Atkinson on democracy, games

Haruhi showing Shuffle games. I was an unabashed fan of both anime series, but don't tell anyone about the latter!

Sometimes it’s just so simple for people like Michael Atkinson to pass the legislation he wants. Other times though this dang thing called democracy gets in the way and ruins everything. What’s the point of being able to pass laws if the people the law will effect want to debate? Sheesh!

Closest I could get to a cake for @Tarale

Animated Yotsuba by AltEisenRiese on Flickr

It’s @Tarale’s birthday and all she got from @Rubenerd was an animated gif of someone eating birthday cake that he didn’t even create himself! Neither the cake nor the animated gif! The scandal! That is, unless she was born on the 11th of December and lied about her birthday for tax purposes, in which case there’s an even bigger scandal than my ripping off of an image. Right about now, the funk soul brother. Bird is the Word!

An obligatory link to her blog, and another link to her blog in case you missed the link to her blog. Thank you.

Teacher strike action with the NTEU

University of South Australia

Our (albeit government sponsored) university fees at work (or lack thereof). Fortunately all my lecturers from this semester have continued to go above and beyond by answering my emails and returning assignments with detailed and friendly comments. I wonder if others have had less luck?

For today Oli Young is The Word!

Huge Happy Birthday going out to Commander Keen himself @Oliyoung who as of 10 minutes ago South Aussie time turned 30! I’ve never met him and have only conversed through The Twitters so therefore I can’t entirely be sure he exists as per the Schrödinger’s Turing Machine Cat Box thing, but if he does I’m sure he’s even more awesome in person :). Suffice to say I hope I have as many amazing things to add to my 20s list when I turn 30!
